Painting and sketching were an important part of her life as a teenager and student of architecture at Qinghua University in Beijing. Her talent stayed in the background while she pursued a career in Old City regeneration and urban development consulting. It moved to the foreground in the late 1990s when she founded Five Colours Earth Fashion. Her designs drew on Chinese and Western influences combined with embroidery from the Miao and Dong minority peoples.

Her heart and talents embarked on a new journey around 2010. She left the fashion world to pursue painting and photography. Tentative at first, she explored composition with oil, acrylic and collage. As she painted the landscape and people of the places she visited, the urge to sketch returned. She discovered soft pastel. It allowed her to move to a new synthesis combining the immediacy of the hand, richness of textures, and zones of colour. The results show her impatience to get to the truth and her generous, inclusive spirit.

In her extensive travels her love of place is captured by the camera. It is not just a dry record but a dialogue with the magic of a place. Insights and joys harvested from these voyages find their way into her painting.
